Which are the Cheapest Wifi Pellet Grills? (Honest Reviews)

Here are a bunch of wifi pellet grills to check out though it’s interesting how they are all from the same brand, Green Mountain Grill – they are pretty much own the entry-level price point for 2 models. To be honest, they do a decent job too.

Then, RecTec has their entry-level grill – it is nearly double the price – but does offer a much larger cooking area and isn’t specifically designed for ‘portability’ like the Green Mountain Grill.

Here is a table I made from another post, the issue with the other wifi pellet grills is that they are at least double the money compared to the Green Moutain Grill models.

Now if you really look hard you can find other cheaper pellet burners out there, but to be honest, they don’t have a track record and I can’t see a support or service structure so I have omitted those from this list.

I had to check to make sure so I did a ring around the stores and spent a fair amount of time online so here are the 3 contenders and then further on a breakdown comparison

The Cheapest Pellet Grills with Wifi

BrandWifi
Green Mountain Grill – Davey Crocket Prime Wifi – Stainless Steel Yes
RecTec Trail Blazer RT-340 Pellet Grill Yes
Green Mountain Grill – Daniel Boone – Prime Wifi Black Finish Yes

My goal for this post was to give a fair comparison of the cheapest wifi pellet grills available. But, as mentioned I am also focussed on the brands that pass a basic test of being around and have a decent reputation.

So, I wanted to make a fair comparison.

You gotta be a bit careful with the Green Mountain Grill range, they have the Prime and the Choice range of grills. Both have some models that are wifi enabled and some that are not.

To define wifi enabled, this means you can either direct a phone/app directly to the grill to manage and monitor the temperatures.

Or you can connect the grill to your home wifi router, which then you operate through your app at home or if you head out and have phone coverage using your phones data.

The Cooking area is for a small family definitely on the Davey Crockett. So as a cheap entry-level pellet burner this has to be taken into account.

The RecTec Trailblazer can get a second half which does add a fair bit of pellet grill real estate.

As you can see the Davy Crocket is really quite light and designed around transportation. The Boone is really getting up in weight as well.

The temperature ranges all these can get to will mean you can go full-on low & slow smoking or you can sear a steak. I would always recommend a grill grate or a decent cast iron pan to retain the heat and help the sizzle as well ( you want to read a bit more about searing on a pellet grill, I wrote about it here.)

Rectec RT-340 – most of the key components (firepot, drip pan etc) are all 304 stainless steel. They have spent more on components which is reflected in the price difference.

When it comes down to PID Controllers, they are basically feedback loops that control the temperatures. Because it is predictive, it learns what happens when it adds pellets, therefore giving a slightly more controlled temperature range.

Now, what I have seen is that this doesn’t really have much difference. If you look at anyone apply rub to there pork or beef – there isn’t any precision accuracy going on, the same applies to the heat. Low and Slow smoking has worked for me, even with temperature swings of 20°F up or down.

If you want to read a bit more about PID Controllers, I did a rundown on another page, check it out here.

Final Thoughts

All these cheap pellet grills will produce great quality smoked goods, they are doing the same job and the variation of results will be very small.

If you are looking to just get into pellet grills or smoking, these are all going to do what you want. The beauty about pellet grills is that they are all about convenience and when you couple this with wifi enabled control.

It just makes the smoking session so much more enjoyable.

Now my goal with this post was to be as unbias as possible talking about the cheapest entry-level pellet grills.

I wrote another page about these entry-level options that include my opinions and what I have seen from these smokers first hand.

If you want to check that out, please find the page here.
